The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 Episode 1 - Sneaky Lying Cheating Giant Ninja Koopas Overview

The first episode of "The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3", Sneaky Lying Cheating Giant Ninja Koopas, aired on September 8th, 1990 on NBC in the US. The episode starts off with King Bowser Koopa having a meeting with his koopalings. He wants the koopalings to do something big and decides that he wants to turn the ruler of Giant Land, Prince Hugo, into a poodle. In order to do so, he turns Bully, Cheatsy, Kooky, and Big Mouth Koopa into sneaky, lying, cheating, giant, ninja koopas so that they can kidnap Prince Hugo the Huge.

After learning that the koopalings defeated his army, Prince Hugo calls a meeting with Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad. He then informs them of what is taking place and Mario and Luigi takes off to face the giant, ninja koopas. Meanwhile, the koopalings are on the move and eventually they reach Prince Hugo's castle. They end up capturing him along with Princess Toadstool and Toad, however, Mario and Luigi makes it back by this time. Thanks to acquiring raccoon powers, Mario and Luigi are the Super Mario Bros. but they end up losing their powers while facing the giant koopas.

Everyone except Mario ends up getting captured and taken back to King Bowsers Castle. Mario made his escape using Prince Hugo's parrot. At the castle, Prince Hugo is turned into a poodle and Bowsers plan is now complete but Mario is still out there and he soon returns with a plan to save Prince Hugo and his friends.

The starting episode of the series was written by Reed Shelly and Bruce Shelly. This episode aired in an hour block with the second season of Captain N: The Game Master and another episode of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 which would be episode two of this series.
